The why behind Unscattered
Who I am
Once upon a time, I was a product director. I thrived on hard problems, on dissecting chaos, finding solutions, and seeing the tangible difference it made. Off the clock, I was a mother of two, a wife, and a caregiver. Busy? Absolutely. But every day felt like an adventure I was successfully navigating. It was a full life, and a good one.
Then, in 2024, it cracked wide open. Not slowly. What felt like all at once.
The turning point
That year, my family went through something traumatic, the kind of thing that rearranges your priorities in a single afternoon. Someone I love became the target of an online predator. What followed wasn't a single bad moment. It was the slow, deliberate work of someone who never should have had access to my family at all. The damage didn't stay online. It came home with us, into every room of our lives. Leaving my career wasn't a choice I made so much as the only thing left standing once everything else fell away. There simply wasn't a version of reality where I could do both.
What followed was years of recovery, for my family and for me. Honestly? It still isn't finished.
We tried almost everything to stay upright: therapists, meditation apps at 2:00 AM, the same three calming playlists on repeat, an absolute mountain of personal growth content. Books stacked high on the nightstand. Audiobooks at double speed during the school run. Podcasts half-listened to while I pretended to be fine in the grocery queue.
And it helped, in the moment. Sitting in a session, or twenty pages into a good book, I'd feel the tension loosen. But then the next hard conversation would hit, or just a heavy, ordinary Tuesday, and whatever I'd absorbed an hour earlier was gone. Not forgotten. Just completely out of reach the second I actually needed it.
Two problems worth solving
Part of me never stopped being a product director. Though I've learned the hard way that not every life challenge can be solved, those old corporate instincts don't just switch off. Mine kept doing what they always did: hunting for the gap, then trying to bridge it. But there wasn't just one gap to fix. There were two, and I've been chasing them both ever since.
The first is what I think of as Knowledge Curation and Retrieval. Growth-minded people consume an incredible amount of books, podcasts, and articles, but when a critical challenge hits, finding that one specific piece of advice becomes a massive bottleneck. The insight is lost somewhere in a sea of half-remembered titles and unorganized notes, right when it's needed most. My mission is to bridge the gap between learning and taking action: a book that helps people capture and instantly surface the exact personal growth and mindfulness insights they need, precisely when they need them. Unscattered is where that starts.
The second is Digital Literacy and Child Safety. Handing a child a phone is inevitable today, yet we hand them powerful tools without the proper safety training. We naturally teach kids about real-world kindness and bullying, but rarely give them the tools to navigate the unique traps of the digital world. The internet doesn't have a delete button, and kids are entering it without the ability to spot manipulation or understand the permanent consequences of their actions. My mission there is to fundamentally change how we prepare the next generation for the digital landscape: practical frameworks for parents and educators to teach proactive digital literacy, equipping children to spot online risks and carry their core values safely into the digital world. I don't have a book for that one yet. It's still research on my desk.
Learning the craft first
I knew absolutely nothing about being an author or a publisher, so jumping straight in felt wrong. I needed to learn the craft first. Before writing a single word of Unscattered, I decided to start with something smaller and lower-stakes: three seasonal activity books for kids, solely to learn what researching, writing, editing, and printing a book actually takes, start to finish.
Today, those three books are done and selling on Amazon. I wanted to ensure that when I finally brought this guide to you, it was built with the highest standard of care. You can see those first projects on the home page, if you're curious where this all started.
